Katya Romero is a community filmmaker and photojournalist from El Salvador. She wrote and directed a short film, "La Ciudad de las Sirenas" (The City of Sirens) (2024), which won the Best Fiction Short Film Award from the El Salvador Film School (ESCINE) at its annual Salvadoran Film Festival in 2024. She has also worked as a director and photography assistant for community film productions related to environmental advocacy and historical memory in El Salvador.
