Biography

Elizabeth Burkner Robbins, known as Liz Robbins, is an American climber, outdoor gear designer, and co-founder of the Royal Robbins Inc. brand. She was born in the 1940s and met her future husband, the renowned climber Royal Robbins, in Yosemite at Camp 4 in the 1960s. Liz, then a young climber, had moved to Yosemite Valley in search of a life of adventure.

Liz Robbins was part of a group of climbers who advocated the ethic of "clean climbing," meaning climbing with the utmost respect for nature and without damaging the rock. She believed that climbers deserved durable and comfortable clothing appropriate for their sport, which didn't exist at the time, and it was with Royal Robbins that she began designing and manufacturing climbing clothing and equipment. Together, they founded the Royal Robbins brand, which became a benchmark in the outdoor clothing industry, notably by launching innovations such as the first climbing shorts and products made from sustainable natural fibers.
