Biography
Melina Kana (real name: Maria Kanata, Thessaloniki, 29 May 1966) is a Greek singer. She was born and raised in Thessaloniki. She studied literature at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, from where she received her degree. She began singing during her student years. In 1987, she appeared at the Plato in Thessaloniki, a collaboration that lasted four years. During this period, she met the composer Stavros Kougioumtzis and collaborated with him. She was a student of Nikos Mamagakis and in the summer of 1989 she participated in Nikos Papazoglou's summer concerts. During this period, she met Sokratis Malamas and later this acquaintance developed into a successful professional collaboration since Melina Kana became more widely known with the song Na valo ta metaxota by Sokratis Malamas. Her first recording appearance was preceded in 1991 by the album Mystika Tragoudia with music by Nikos Mamagakis and lyrics by Michalis Gana. She collaborated in live performances with Nikos Papazoglou, Nikos Xydakis, Socrates Malamas, Thanasis Papakonstantinou, Dionysis Savvopoulos, Giorgos Dalaras, Stavros Kougioumtzi, Charoula Alexiou, Eleni Tsaligopoulou, Manolis Rasoulis, etc.
