Michele Yu
Biography
Michele Yu is an accomplished Los Angeles–based production designer who collaborates closely with fellow designer Cindy Chao. The pair form a creative partnership that began during their undergraduate studies at UC San Diego and has flourished over more than fifteen years in film and television production.
Michele Yu’s career encompasses a diverse portfolio of credits across feature films and television. She has served as production designer on a variety of projects, including Much Ado About Nothing (2012), Grandma (2015), In Your Eyes (2014) and V/H/S Viral (2014).
Her work on A Black Lady Sketch Show (2019) has been particularly notable. Alongside Chao and set decorator Lizzie Boyle, she has earned multiple accolades, including Primetime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Production Design for a Variety or Reality Series. In 2022, they were nominated for their work on the episode “Anybody Have Something I Can Flog Myself With?”; in 2023, they received another nomination for the episode “Peek-a-Boob, Your Titty’s Out.” Their production design for A Black Lady Sketch Show has also garnered multiple Art Directors Guild Excellence in Production Design Award nominations.
