Biography
Pham Ky Nam (June 27, 1928 – March 3, 1984) was a feature film and documentary director considered one of the pioneers of Vietnamese revolutionary cinema. As the first director from North Vietnam to receive formal training abroad, he began his directing career with the film Chung mot dong song . This was not only the first feature film from North Vietnam after 1954 but also the first feature film of Vietnamese revolutionary cinema. After that, his name was associated with a series of early feature films of Vietnamese revolutionary cinema as well as documentaries on the subject of President Ho Chi Minh . With his contributions to Vietnamese cinema since its inception, he was posthumously awarded the State Prize for Literature and Arts by the Vietnamese government in 2007 and the title of People's Artist in 2012.
